Karen Shaner (My Mom) Talks Her Wedding, Moving to San Antonio, and the Birth Of Your Favorite Rapper-Podcaster As We Record an Oral History Of Her Life
My folks were back in town this week so here’s part 2 of our conversation about her life history. You can hear our first one back on Episode 46. I let her get VERY specific this time around. We only cover about 5 years of her life, but it was a huge transitional phase. We discuss my parents’ wedding, moving to San Antonio, and the birth of your favorite rapper.

I’m glad to hear that your dad is still coherant and still has those old memories. From “Imagining” I had feared that he was already really deep into the Alzheimer’s.
Love the podcast, wish I could make it outta Sacramento to see one of your shows.
the music video father was obviously an actor, and music videos tend to take liberties with reality. that being said, alzheimer’s generally takes away short term memory first so, while he still retains many long term memories, you can hear him struggling to come up with words and he often has trouble concentrating on the context of a story during his interjections.
I know all that. Looking at it now it was a selfish feeling of, “aww at least he’s better than I thought”, as I am not the one that has to deal with it. I get to feel warm and fuzzy and walk away for you to live with what’s yet to come.
I’m sorry brother, my intentions were good, I hadn’t thought it all the way through. My thoughts are with you though. I truly hope they figure this thing out in time to help your father.
haha noooooo…no need to apologize I didn’t mean for it to sound snappy. merely trying to explain what it’s really like when a loved one is going through it. it’s not like the movies where they can’t remember anything (at least we haven’t reached that point yet thankfully).
Your mum is lovely. So nice and positive. And you two are so funny.
